08:58 pm - Bike failure
I just discovered that the exhaust on my bike is cracked.

Dammit.

And I'm off to france soon (on the bike) so this is a problem.

Anyone know a good place to get exhausts welded?

06:34 pm - Leaving NZ

I'm on the plane at Christchurch, about to leave for Sydney, Dubai, Glasgow, Edinburgh etc.

It's been a great holiday, though thought provoking....

Why do I choose to live in cold, miserable Scotland, rather than warm sunny NZ?

A difficult question.

And one that currently is answered with 'I can't move, house, job etc. ' which isn't very positive.

09:34 pm - Finally!

There is an iPhone livejournal client. It means I might update this a little more often. Which is good.

Though don't expect essays or good spelling the keyboard is only so good o the iPhone.

In other news I am panicking about going to new Zealand after Christmas - trying to get around to booking my internal flights and motorbike hire and all that.

09:56 pm - roof repairs
One estimate just came in for the statutory repairs the council have ordered....

£35k+vat+contingency.
So that makes about £6k per flat.

Ouch.

No holidays this year.

09:26 pm - Failed his saving throw
Gary Gygax has died.

To those who don't follow RPGs that won't mean much. But to the rest of us it is the loss of the founder, the original, the prophet even.

*sigh*

10:12 am - Gaming fun
I'm currently running a Nightwatch/Daywatch game set in London.
The PCs are from an unaffiliated faction that generally runs around doing things rather than getting tied up in watch politics/bureaucracy.

So, when the Watches were particularly snarled in internal audits and a vampire plague seems to be growing in London the PCs head out to do the Watches' job. Turns out the vampires are being led by a nutter who calls himself 'Lestat' (gee - imaginative) but managed by an ex Daywatch operative. The vampires attack the two watch headquarters, most of the PCs leap to defend the Nightwatch (they are the good guys after all).

Meanwhile at the Daywatch HQ, the ex Daywatch operative lets the vampires in and they have free reign of the executive offices. This leads to a standoff between the Daywatch boss and the ex operative (who turns out to be the bosses jilted ex). The PC who decided to see what was happening at the Daywatch HQ ends up brokering a deal with the Daywatch boss and tips the balance of power. The ex flees and all is saved.

Or was it all just an elaborate coverup to stop all the internal auditing?

Or a way of getting the PCs to side with the daywatch and fall to the dark side?

Or all three.

12:18 pm - wireless mumble networks
Finally got my fecking wireless network to work properly.
It seems my 3com router (and elderly and cheap piece of crap) was the cause of all the problems.

No longer using 5ghz N, which is a pity as it was really fast, but the 2.4 version is still pretty damn quick.

And now my network reaches the other end of the house - which sadly is a big improvement.

11:38 am - Progress!!
After much general delaying and dithering I've finally finished assembling my new fireplace surround.

Now all I need to do is sand it, stain it, varnish it, attach it to the wall, mount the tv to the wall and create a hearth and shelves for the dvd player etc.

So about 6 months.
